Our physicians also have privileges at the hospitals listed below when insurance does not allow surgery at an ambulatory surgery center.

There are three major hospitals in the immediate vicinity of Charles Retina Institute:
  • Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis is just off I-240 at exit 13 (east on Walnut Grove). Call 901-226-5000.
  • St. Francis Hospital is at 5959 Park. From Poplar, take Ridgeway going south, and turn right at Park. Call 901-765-1000.
  • Methodist Hospital Germantown is at 7691 Poplar Avenue, just east of Germantown Road. Call 901-754-6418. Note: We do not perform vitreoretinal surgery at this Methodist location, but we do see premature infants there.
Area hospitals where we perform vitreoretinal surgery: Area hospitals where we see premature infants: Dr. Charles is on the staff of all area hospitals except St. Jude. (Children's tumor cases are referred to Barrett Haik, M.D., Professor and Chairman of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee, for care at St. Jude's).
