surgery booking, billing and insurance
certification. Ophthalmic technicians for pre-dilation,
patient evaluation, vision, refraction and

assisting with examinations. Full-time
photographers and technicians for FAs, OCT, ERG, EOG,
VEP and visual fields. Assistance for in-office
procedures.

Generally, first year fellow clinic consists of
ROP and some adult, with more adults and less ROP in
second year fellow clinic. Surgeries are
performed at Baptist Memorial, St. Francis, Methodist University
Hospital, Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center, Hamilton Eye
Institute ASC, and VA Medical Center.
In-office procedures (lasers, cryo, pneumatic retinopexy,
injections) are performed as needed and generally
at the time these present. Generally, no specific
procedure time is scheduled. Angiograms are performed
as needed and can be viewed on screen instantly or on
hard copy within minutes.

*Extensive Diabetic Retinopathy.
*Macular Disease: Macular holes, pucker, epimacular
membranes, ARMD and OHS with CNV, myopic
degeneration with CNV, CSR, CME.
*Vascular Disease: CRVO, CRAO, BRVO, BRAO,
macroaneurysms, "Coat's Disease," Some vasculitis.
*Infectious Retina: Acute retinal necrosis,
occasional HIV/CMV, toxoplasmosis, toxocariasis,
and endophthalmitis.
*Genetic/Inherited Disease: Retinitis pigmentosa,
Stargardt's, Rod/cone disease, and peripheral
degenerations.
*Uveitis and pars planitis.

| Surgical Experience: |
*Extensive Diabetic retinopathy: Traction
detachments, vitreous hemorrhages, and neovascular
glaucoma.
*Surgical Macular Disease: Macular holes, pucker,
and membranes.
*Submacular Surgery: OHS/myopic
degeneration/idiopathic CNV.
*Retinal Detachments: Buckles, vitrectomy/gas,
laser retinopexy, or
vitrectomy/silicone oil depending on the situation.
*ROP traction detachments, PHPV, endophthalmitis,
uveitis, cataract surgery complications.
*Ocular oncology co-managed with Dr. Barrett Haik,
chairman of UT Memphis Department of Ophthalmology, with possibility for
participation with brachytherapy as a second year
fellow.
*First year fellow - 500-600 cases assisting Dr. Charles.
*Second year fellow - 140-160 cases as primary surgeon.
